I recently won my first golf tournament and here are some of the things that I think of: How hard I tried – I tried real hard to get near a top place finish or at least in the top five. I have been competing for a year and was a little discouraged when last year I was placing 6th or 7th place.
What I did – I played in and won a golf tournament at Shanty Bay G&CC in Ontario, Canada with the Future Masters Pepsi Tour. I am 8 years old and I am competing against 12 year olds. We played a nine-hole tournament.
How I played – I had really good drives and played really solid, my game was in good shape, my putting wasn’t my best and could have been a little better but I tried my hardest. I chipped pretty well and my long shots were good.
How I reacted when I won – When I won I didn’t feel discouraged anymore because I got first place and I did really well. When I won, I won a mug that I held very tight because I didn’t want to drop it. I was very proud to tell people that I had won.
How I feel about it afterwards – When I look back at my first win I think I did very well and played well and when I think of it, it makes me very happy because I was golfing and did very well. I now have more confidence and know I can win.
Parents Comments: Winning isn’t everything. Yes, winning is a great experience but the enjoyment, challenge, meeting people, improving yourself and having fun are just as important as how well you place. If you enjoy it and look forward to competing in whatever it is that interests you, then the winning, or whatever you are capable of will come much easier. If you are fortunate enough to win, use it in a positive way and help others reach their potential.
